Doctor-Led Long-Term Residential Care for Disabilities
Our journey for long term care was started by a person with severe learning disabilities. He was admitted in our Nursing Home for treatment of pneumonia in 2012. He required assistance for all activities of daily life. He was staying in a village in Punjab but relatives refused to take him back. He has a nephew in Gurgaon who also couldn’t take him home. So nephew requested us to keep him for long term and we agreed. That’s how our journey for long term care started. Then in due course of time we had five persons for long term care in our Nursing Home. Then we decided to build a new facility for long term care of elderly.
We started with 18 rooms in 2015, now we have 150 rooms. Most of our residents are people who need regular medical care and assistance in daily needs. We have 70% of our residents who are wheelchair bound. We are serving people with severe learning disabilities and convulsion disorders but the majority of our work is in taking care of the elderly people, so far.
Now feeling the need for people with severe learning disabilities, Down’s syndrome and cerebral palsy, we had decided to open a new section dedicated only for PWD.
We are also trying to find solution for ‘What After Us‘ dilemma for parents of persons with these disabilities.
